Local Adventures

Dirt bikes and one road and one mountain bike are available. There is a plethora of old logging roads that make ideal bikeways.

Depending upon weather and conditions, there are large inner tubes for enjoying the creek and the big 14 footer for for floating and fishing on the Clark Fork or other rivers.

Guest fishing rods invite you to walk out to the creek and wave that stick at the water, or hop in Maryann and head to any one of several excellent fishing holes.

A few lovely hiking trails are within 30 minutes, and you can hike along creeks, through forests, and even travel as far as the Idaho border. Or head up a sloping road to a boarded-up fire lookout tower and have an unparalleled view of the valley around you. And there’s cell service!

If any of the following are of interest, it’s best to chat with them before you arrive to understand your options while you have phone service and can ask lots of questions.

Whitewater Rafting

Alberton Gorge is only a 30 minute drive away, sprinkled with Class III and IV rapids that are a blast (generally) between July 4 and September 7. To make plans, contact Lewis & Clark Trail Adventures, 406-728-7609:

Flyfishing

Recommended by one of my builders, a long-time fisherman, the Kingfisher Fly Shop. They can also refer you to a wonderful instructor for a first time lesson (and hour or two) as well.

Hiawatha Trail

A 15-mile bike ride near the Idaho/Montana border along what used to be a railroad bed. It meanders through tunnels (one of which is over a mile long and has a stream flowing through it!) and has great scenery. An incredibly fun day! Ticket purchase and bike rental (and we can haul two bikes from here) can be done online and picked up at the Lookout Pass ski area:

Rock Climbing

If this is your passion, then contact me and I will put you in touch with my builder, who’s offered to share a couple of places nearby. Not really destination climbing, that bit is a couple hours+ away. Those spots, he says, are a well-guarded secret.
