Actually, in my mind and in my reality! Arrived Monday at 6 pm in Charlotte, grabbed my rental car and headed west on US 40 (and how old were you when you discovered that all even numbered highways run east to west and all odd numbered ones run north to south? I was embarrassingly old. and 3 digit numbers are beltways around cities, btw). The cabin I rented actually lies west of Asheville, so I got off the interstate long enough to find a grocery store to pick up some breakfast items. And what was the first grocery store I came to after looking at the map? I skidded into the Green Life 30 minutes before closing, happy to discover that it was a Whole Foods in disguise (kind of like Ideal Market in Boulder). I was even happier to discover that their options in the healthy food arena were more varied than even Boulder (or perhaps these particular items are in some of the further recesses of our Boulder Whole Foods; it’s actually a small town in itself and who knows what lurks in the middle of some of those aisles?) – I scooped up a bag of garlic-flavored crispy kale chips. Mmmmmm
Hopped back on the highway, munching down my black bean burger, and followed email directions onto a lesser highway, a roadway, and finally a gravel road heading up a hill in into the woods on that single track. Had to stop a couple times to study directions (is that the brown house they’re referring to? which one of these radial roads is mine?) until I finally pull up to the Ladybug Cabin. Ladybug you ask? I’m not necessarily talking about the stone pavers up to the cabin (ladybug shape), the curtains across the sliding glass doors or the cushions on the porch furniture, the throw pillows, the tablecloth, the utensil holder, nor the wall art; neither the headboard, curtains, coat rack, trashcan, quilt art, hats or door pulls in my bedroom; perhaps it’s the towels or soap holder in the bathroom? I think you get the picture.
The picturesque pond out front has been drained for some kind of repair work. Oh, well. I’m preoccupied with unpacking my groceries, my clothes and myself. I find all the blankets I can because there’s evidently no heat in here. I snuggle in and head off to sleep. Big day tomorrow!
