This morning started with a one hour conference call with my business partners while Mr. Michael slept in. Breakfast and supplies, we met our pal Don at Dunkin doughnuts and off we went. Today’s agenda were two pieces of land within 20 minutes of Asheville and perhaps a creek? First stop, sorry, but I don’t seem to have the property number. We head up the backside onto a knoll (yes, it was grassy) with a tremendous 360 degree view:
View was mighty fine, but we could see other homes from this vantage point. We headed down to the main body of the property, skidding down a somewhat steep hill through the woods. We came out below by some ancient, abandoned vehicles:
and walked through a beautiful meadow, imagining gardens (with the bus transformed into my gardening shed) and cabins. Unfortunately, the end border of the property was along a well-traveled road and the creek followed right along the road. A non-starter.
Back into the car and headed to the next property, #480360, which had a house on it, along with a chicken shack and llama barn. Our hostess was a lovely woman, ready to leave the property and her two-story home due to bad knees. The property was a lovely meadow, with the land rising sharply on all sides to create a natural privacy barrier. Water was already piped out to the meadow and barn, with electricity there as well. I definitely fell in love with the barn and had already designed a full home with it before I left. Couldn’t do anything with the funky house, though, would have to bulldoze that thing! Here’s the nice side of things:
That’s all we had on the schedule. We chatted with Don a while and he will be sending me links to properties that fit my parameters when they come onto the market. Michael and I stopped at the cabin to change (up to 80 degrees – yea!) and headed out to lunch (picture alert!). We went to
where they served
We stepped up to order, but had to back away to negotiate our ordering to ensure we got to taste everything we wanted to. Which of the 4 styles of ribs? How to taste the pulled pork and brisket…and will that be sliced or chopped? Sides: corn pudding, cole slaw, collard greens (with rib bits!) beans, etc etc (cornbread comes standard). We finally got it straight and took care of business:
We filled 4 little cups with each of the barbecue sauces (jalapeno, spicy mustard, sweet tomato and tangy vinegar) and repaired to our picnic table outside to await delivery. What a feast!
how is it really, Michael?
I just had to text pictures to my sisters and mom (sorry Lee!) and then went to get a take-out order to haul to Raleigh tomorrow when I meet up with them. Back to the cabin for a little chill (nap?) time and get some work done, pack, etc. We were entranced by a serious downpour (yes, thunder, lightening and hail all joined in) and so happy we were in for the evening. We iChatted with Miss Tay, laughed, chatted and ate leftovers. Packed up and (mostly) ready to hit the road tomorrow. G’nite xoxoxo
PS high and tight is Don’s euphemism for land that is close in to town
