Off to the Big Apple

Too soon to be heading out again this time around for sure. Could I be wanting to slow down?

Headed out on Friday for my annual pilgrimage to New York. Took a train from Newark all the way to Brooklyn (a first) and Michael met me at the subway stop and I got to see his apartment. We headed out to dinner right away, to a hip little spot he had read about with small plates (what’s new?). When we arrived, I laughed at the name and explained to him what it meant. Traif! It was bustling and noisy and we had no problem finding 4 dishes to order and share. We chatted and ate, and I changed my mind to order a mojito  because the table next to us had two and they were definitely the prettiest ones I’ve ever seen. It finally arrived and I’m happy to say that the taste matched the visual. Mmmmm. After dinner, we walked a ways to a piano bar. We sat in the back room, shaped in a square with tables all along the perimeter, which was raised to a higher level than the white baby grand piano sitting in the middle. The tables were standard, but the “chairs” on either side were actually two old school auditorium seats – yes, the kind we used to sit in at school assembly – wooden, with the seats folding up every time you stood.

We relaxed there for about an hour; enough time for a game of cribbage (now that I have the world’s smallest set) and to really enjoy some funky jazz tunes on the ivories. Off to the apartment and up for a bit before falling off to sleep. No sign of the roommate.
