The Quick and (not so) Dirty

Well, if you’ve been checking in, you know by now that I’m not very good at keeping the blog up-to-date when it comes to domestic travels. So this will be short and sweet, if only for the historical archives. The latter part of June found me on another trip to the East coast; this time it’s family and water fun! I started in DC with a visit to the Tellepsen household. First I whop out my specialty: face painting! I had a different request from each munchkin, but you can test your imagination to see if you can figure each one out:

Sam is decorated with the instrument of his new passion; Charlie has laser eyes and Emma-doo….well, if you don’t get that one, you’ve lost touch with your inner child for sure!

Next day, we head out to the barn to see Sam have his riding lesson:

Prepping the pony

And the end of the day rinsing of all of the fun:

Cooking, reading and playing lots of Trouble, then it’s time to move on.

In the car Tuesday morning and on the road bound for Virginia Beach. It’s a long ride and I end up arriving in town close to dinnertime, so I head straight to Beth and Nathan’s house (Beth is high school friend. I attended her wedding two summers earlier) after a quick stop at Birdland records to see my pal Barry Friedman and pick up a few CDs (one as hostess gift).

Dinner, gossip, lots of good food and hugs later, I head down to my cousin Hyman’s house at the oceanfront. Set up house and hit the hay. Up early in the morning and to the store for supplies, then go for a run and sunning by the pool. Beth joins me later in the afternoon and chat the day away. Shower and out to meet Barry and Linda, Paul and Stephanie for dinner. A fun time to catch up, then back to the beach. Next day, rinse and repeat, and Paul joins me in the afternoon. After he departs, shower and Hyman arrives and whisks me out to dinner. We do a lot of good talking – usually I get 10 minutes with him and this in depth time together is so wonderful. Next day he and I head to the gym in the morning, then by the pool and even a bit down in the sand.  By late afternoon, Stacy shows up and it’s great to get a moment to say hi. I pack everything up and hit the road to Lake Anna, where Lee and Lisa have their lake house. I head around Richmond and detour far enough to find Holy Foods, stock up, and head into the lightening storm of the year. Waiting for downed trees and slowing when I can’t see further than my windshield wipers gets me in close to midnight. Whew!
