The Big Apple

Headed out just a week later to the Big Apple. First night at the Singer house, then I moved into the Hotel Moderne, in the heart of midtown, for the rest of my stay. Monday accompanied Stacey to make her rounds at the jewelers (ooh, picked out some sweet freshwater pearls for a new necklace), then we headed uptown for lunch at my favorite vegetarian restaurant, the Candle Cafe:

Stacey headed back home later in the day. I made a pitstop at Bloomingdales and then met Roger for a quick bite to eat and then on to Club Cache so we could enjoy the swinging sounds of Vince Giordino and the Nighthawks:

Not seated yet, but soon to arrive at the table next to us are Liza Minelli and Michael Feinstein. Stars out tonight! Next day I head back uptown, where mom and Betsy are getting their hair colored and cut:

I hang and chat for a while, then head out to lunch (yes, again) at the Candle Cafe. No problem, as it’s early, and I finish, smile and jump on the subway to catch up with the girls on the top floor of Barney’s at Fred’s restaurant. Mom and Bets are eating with a friend of Betsy’s from Nantucket. Afterwards, Stacey meets us at Bergdorf’s and mom treats the girls to “shoe day” and a pair each! Oh Boy!!

Mom and Betsy head back to the train station and back to DC, and I head back to prep for dinner at Danzi, a hip Korean tapas place, then to see Peter and the Starcatcher. Ends up being too musical-ly for me, but I endure and walk back to the hotel.

Wednesday I finish my “chores” and get ready for the evening. The world premiere of “Chasing Ice”, a documentary detailing how James Balog has created a photo archive of the change in icebergs around the world. Fascinating and so impactful to actually SEE what has been happening. A few more stars, and we adjourn upstairs for dinner and an incredible view (and I chat up the chair of a venture capital firm). Patti has pushed her schedule around to see me, and we all chat for the evening:

Thursday morning, Stacey and I hit the streets. First stop is the public art construct – a living room built around the statue of Columbus in, you guessed it, Columbus circle. Patti has sent us over some VIP tickets so we get to hop to the front of the line. Pretty cool idea, and the books and wallpaper in the room are especially impressive:

Then we head uptown to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met to most of us), where we head into a special exhibit of Andy Warhol and works by other artists who were influenced by him. Very interesting, although modern is really  not my thing:

Then race back to the hotel, with a quick stop at the Dig Inn to pick up our veggie salads to go, and I’m off to the airport and winging my way back to Colorado!
