Lance invited me to join family and friends to ski/snowshoe out to Shrine Mountain Inn (Walter’s hut), which is a 2+mile trail out to a series of wood houses. Eminently awesome for people who enjoy skiing the backcountry. I am carrying only the bare necessities (a day pack), while most other folks have fully loaded backpacks that are loaded well above their heads! Anyway, I have everything I need (I think) to stay warm, and we set out:
and ease on down the road
but who can walk by all of that pristine snow without…
not I, evidently!
It seems we are hiking/skinning through a real blizzard. At some points, can hardly see my buddy ahead of me, but after 2 1/2 hours, we arrive, and are we happy
We get in and remove wet, cold clothing (I think I jumped immediately under the down comforter Lance hauled up), and power up with some good snacks and help other arrivals get gear off and warmed up by the wood-burning stove:
The next morning brings a beautiful, bluebird sky and a warm, 1 1/2 hour walk back.
