Day two proved to be quite a bit mellower than the first. The highlight was the Treme Brass band, which has been around a loooong while, with members coming and going. They had everyone up and dancing, as you can see here:

We sat for the full show, and the woman sitting by Lance handed me her parasol so I could join everyone else in the parasol/dancing parade. Fun!

I planning on seeing Robert Plant as my headliner today – saw him in Denver a couple of years ago and he was awesome – but I could hardly make it through the first and second tunes (ouch!) and I headed back to my favorite tent to hear the DUKES of Dixieland 40th anniversary celebration (yes, have played at Jazzfest every year for the past 40), which was so much better.

Hopped on the shuttle bus (and this time, a real schoolbus, but with air-conditioning):

at about 6:30 (wanted to avoid crush when all music was done at 7) and back to the hotel for a shower and walk to dinner. Tonight’s was disappointing from the get-go, so we stopped after our appetizers and then headed over to Frenchman street, where lives a concentration of small music venues. We went upstairs at the Blue Nile club, waiting for a group that was supposedly kind of afro-jazz. There was a balcony, and it was worth the price of admission just to hang out there with a drink and people-watch. Traffic proved interesting as well, particularly after sighting the pirate pizza delivery vehicle:

So fun and so New Orleans. We enjoyed the band for a bit, then tired puppy that I was, we headed back for rest and our final day in the Big Easy.
