summer in suwarrow

It’s been quite a while….as I’ve been putting things in order around the Lodge, I’ve often wanted to post what’s going on: sitting on the back patio reading, then being startled by the sound of a missile going by and knowing to look for a red-throated hummingbird. Thinning out the row of beets in the garden and thinking about how Lance (and others) eats the green tops. I started snipping the tops off of each of the baby beets I pulled and dropping them into my basket. Michael and I enjoyed a dinner of sautéed beet greens with garlic, mushrooms, feta and pasta. There’s so much going on, we feel like we hardly get started with what we want to do and it’s 8:30 in the evening and we’re eating dinner. Haven’t dipped my toes in the creek yet this summer, if you can believe that. Supposed to be up to 90 later in the week, and I’ll just have to blow up one of the big inner tubes and take ‘er for a spin (or is it the other way around?).

Anyhow, here are some recent photos to enjoy. Now that I have them up, I will continue to share bits and pieces of days spent up here at suwarrow. Sitting out in the screened-in porch is definitely a favorite. I try to start each day sitting out there with my hot beverage of choice, listening to my favorite guided meditation podcast….or Mooji. I don’t know if there are many other places where I can actually sit and just stare out into the woods. It’s like my own kind of Prozac. Not to say I’m not busy hanging pictures, building first aid kits, watering and talking to the garden, wondering if the bees are asleep yet, adjusting sprinkler heads so they don’t hit the house and finessing the air vents on the Big Green Egg (that thing’s amazing!). I am. My back hurts more often than it should, but I know that will dissipate and I’ll still have this wonderful haven by the creek. An island to myself……and to share with those I love.
