Countdown to Ecstasy*

Well, we’re all packed and down to the minutia of errands. Board the 12:34 flight at DIA and won’t be looking back for a while! As most of you know, I’m a planner’s planner, but am aligning myself with the nature of the sailing agenda: open to where the winds take me, curious about any and all coastal stops (particularly if never heard of before!). A couple nights in Naples to get over any jet lag, sample pizza, and shop for staples with which to stock the boat. Carol and Reed, Carolyn, Jim and Alexi will accompany Lance, Tay and me to the 40-minute hydrofoil ferry ride out to the island of Procida on the 24th, where we can board our boat at 3 pm. I have already emailed with our jolly skipper, Settimmo Costa, and he sounds great – has even volunteered to make us his grandmother’s traditional rabbit recipe to see how it compares to that which we’ll be eating on the island of Ischia. My kind of guy!

Our route and progress will depend on the wind and our whim. But here’s a crude map of what we’re hoping will be the general course:

The only change since Lance drew up that great slide is that we will actually finish right back where we started, then hop on a train to Torino to continue the adventure.

I don’t know where and how often we will have access to internet, but I will do my best to post at least photos twice a week. If you don’t want to be jealous of cuisine, don’t look!

(Mostly) Just kidding. Please keep in touch!
