All Ashore Who’s Going Ashore!!

Well there I went, boarding a big, beautiful ship bound for sea. The SilverSea Whisper became my home for 18 days, and a beautiful ship it is. Embarkation in Fort Lauderdale, I was all smiles as I boarded and met so many helpful staff and unpacked in my beautiful room:

Then went exploring to see everything. From deck 10, which housed the spa, workout room and Panoramic lounge:

to all of the various restaurants, bars, card room (!) and theatre.

Patch in place behind my ear, I was ready as we headed out to sea for two days cruising before arriving in Cartagena, a place that’s been on my list for a while. I toured the city myself, and it was lovely.

First stop (of course), one of the excellent cevicherias:

And so much to choose from! I ordered the house specialty,

But that didn’t stop me from rubber-necking at

every plate that went by.

After that, I walked and walked and was lucky enough to find locals drumming and dancing in one of the main squares, both during the daylight:

And then again late at night (movie to be posted upon my return) while I was preparing to return from dinner. The ancient walls are lit up at night and beautiful:

The next morning I found a taxi driver to take me to the Bazurti market, off in the opposite direction from the port, but solely for locals. He drove us there and then proceeded to walk with me through the whole thing, so I didn’t get lost. Local markets all over the world have so many similarities, but always to fun to see what items differentiate any particular locale. Lots of seafood and avocadoes here of course!

And i don’t want to know what this is:

Plenty of the usual:

Cooking up some seafood stew:

And the charcoal man chilling while waiting for clients:

And folks enjoying the bounty of the market:

Then back to the ship and off we went. Fun!
