I’m always grateful for my summertime visitors. So fun and so much additional joy added to my life here. Busy, as always, rafting, picking huckleberries, hiking, house cocktailing, etc.
One unexpected visitor! Early in the morning, cozy in bed, I hear a noise. What’s that? I look out the bedroom window, see nothing, lay back down. A bigger noise, and I decide to investigate. Robe and slippers on, I step outside my bedroom door, look direction to the left into the screened-in porch and see a 7-ish foot black bear! Whoa! Heart rate increases as the following thoughts go through my head: Can I get to my camera without her seeing me? Can a bear break through those triple-pane German windows? What now? By the time I’m done with all of that, she swings her head back and forth, decides nothing much going on here, turns right around and hops with no effort back through the spot where she broke through the screen and lopes across the backyard back into the woods. Come to find out later that some other folks in the valley call her Ellen. As the summer went on, I see plenty of evidence that Ellen has returned to visit, but kept a respectable distance. Thanks, big girl

my fishermen and quality hike/hang time:

Nikki and Roberta showed up for a fun girls’ weekend:

On our hike up to Heart Lake! After huffing and puffing, Nikki and I decided to jump on in (that’s her in the feature photo for this post), then pose again on a log:

Back down again

and another day of picking for cobbler:

and checking out the booty:

Betsy and Shon and I at the same spot!

And my annual grand finale: sissy time! Stacey for a few days, and check us out in the new wood-fired hot-tub. Yummy!

and then Jeff (finally) arrived for a few days of exploring the lumber roads and snapping photos all over the area.

And two of my chicks for a lovely weekend of floating, hiking and hanging (and the requisite snoozing in everyone’s favorite chair)
