Lance was sick half-way into both dives yesterday (but recuperated by dinnertime), so we took the day off on Monday. After breakfast, we packed up our gear for a walk around the perimeter of the island (we were told it would take about a half hour). We walk all the way down the small, paved road through the village, and duck under the eaves of a bungalow while it rains for a bit:
Then we head over the path to the beach, and continue along the sand, through tidal pools and the usual detritus:
Some times the going gets a little tricky, but Lewis is always there to lead Clark:
We get about an hour into the trip, and beach disappears, so we head up into the brush, and eventually come into someone’s garden, as is evident by the corn field and some palm fruit. I heist an ear:
and can tell you without a doubt that this bears very little resemblance to peaches and cream! Very hard and i spit it out immediately. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I say.
Lance found the road/path out and we’re back on the beach. Since we’ve been spotting so many hermit crabs, we take the time to play and old Baydush Simon game:
Recognize that, anyone? Yes, it’s the old hermit crab races from the days of the Roman Empire. And yes, Bessie did indeed win…
We’re back at our bungalow after a leisurely hour and a half hike. The customary de-schvitzer shower and lunch in the restaurant – it starts raining as soon as we return, perfect timing – so no repast on the shore today.
A lazy afternoon of one, elongated rest hour, mostly on our front porch lounging area:
with HOURS of conversation and giggling. Even took a stab at the first 23 of 36 questions referred to in the Modern Love column from the NYT entitled “To Fall in Love with Anyone, Do This.” Would really be interesting to do in the early days of a relationship, which is how it’s intended to be used. But still interesting and fun at this point.
We manage to scrape ourselves up for a game of pool in the bar, a quick dinner, then back to our room for the evening.
