Aaaaaaah

Well, I’m finally able to write. I travelled all night (or rather early morning) of Wednesday, January 29th and finally arrived (with only a few hours of sleep) on the sleepy island of Grand Turk. It’s usually hidden behind the large shadow of Providenciales, its sister island that has so many spectacular beaches, serious resorts, and one less plane ride to reach. However, divers know that not only does Grand Turk (6 miles long by 1 mile wide) house the capital of this British overseas territory, it also has a plethora of gorgeous reef wall diving only minutes from shore. So close, in fact, that most two-tank morning dive boats spit you back onto shore for your one hour interval. Heavenly for those of us who don’t relish bobbing on the sea for the “rest hour”.

and a very sophisticated cooling system, achieved by opening the front and back glass doors and allowing nature to do the rest!

At dinnertime, I walk down to the fish market, where the guys were laughing and joking with everyone who came buy. The dude with the rusty scale, Derek, drives a nice BMW sedan and his compatriots told me he has 3 of them! Sounds like selling fish to the tourists (and everyone else) pays pretty darn well. I asked about lobster, if they’d have any the next night and they said yes, so I planned on returning for some. Meanwhile, I walked home with my fish, took the time to snap some sunset photos:

and then sauteed my fishy up with a head of garlic and lots of butter. Mmmmm, doesn’t get much fresher than that!
