Bali #6

It’s that time of year again, and I’m off to warmer climes; scuba diving NOT optional. Though this does, in fact, make visit #6, it’s first time for my honey, Philip and so we find a way so we can both be experiencing new places together.

We head first to Sanak Retreat, up in the highlands of central Bali. Quiet and surrounded by villages, we enjoy the peace and particularly the visit from our table each morning and night:

To get our bearings, we sign up for a trek through the rice fields and local village and enjoy our guide, Arca, very much. The trail brings us along beautiful local scenery:

Rub that reef-safe sunblock in better, Deb

And then around to a waterfall for a much-needed swim:

We then walk through town to the small local market, and I, of course, have to try everything I see that looks yummy. It occurs to me that these two photos could really be me anywhere in the world:

What’s he grilling back there and will I like it?
Good flavor, kinda tough but fun!

Then we head over to Arca’s home, where his wife is cooking up rice cakes and black rice and we sit on stools to sample her wares (which were excellent):

A really great day. The later afternoon brings rainstorms, so very much enjoyed by the daybed on the covered porch. The evening ends with beautiful dinner of grilled fish w all the local spices:

Next day we walk on our own through the village and rice fields. We decide not much going on, so we cancel our next 4 nights and head out to the northwest to stay in West Bali National Park. See you there!
