Bike tour

Superbowl Sunday. Time for another adventure! I rented a bike and headed out for the 10+ mile ride to the other side of the island: Bocas del Drago. Despite grave warnings about difficult hills and lonesome roads, I took off. After about 20 minutes, the humidity did get to me. I started taking more frequent water breaks and all was well. Whizzed by ex-pat houses (easy to spot) and little towns where folks were out cheering on their favorite local baseball team. Had to hop off near the crest of two hills, but otherwise made it just fine. Burst out laughing gliding down one hill as the sea came into sight. I made it! headed to the sandy end of the road and locked up the bike. Had to rest a bit in a hammock (detecting a theme here?). Had an excellent lunch of garlicky pulpos (octopus) at a table stuck in the sand, with a view of families laughing and playing in the water. After a while longer, I packed it up and headed back through the jungle to the casa. Stopped once and could see hummingbirds in the trees and hear monkeys chattering in the jungle on either side of the pothole-filled road. Amazing! As I rode on, the perfect song came on my ipod and I then burst into tears of happiness. What a lucky girl I am and wonderful is my life…and the world….and traveling in new cultures….Back for a shower and headed out with Doug and the couple we met at the Thai restaurant on the hill to a big Superbowl party with about 50 Americanos, 2 flat screen tv’s and so many ex-pat surfers. And to top it all off:  a great superbowl game. Back to Panama City tomorrow and then home the next day. I am floating through the days and the peacefulness and the looong nights of sleep have been wonderful.
