Our last stop: Cabo San Lucas. I had my map and my list of “best of” restaurants. Best taco al pastor, chorizo taco and fish tacos. A nice walk through town and I enjoyed my adventure, however, it seems either my palate has moved beyond what they’re offering or my research was incorrect. Still, I enjoyed the experience, and especially the toppings brought to my table to create my own experience.
Las Guacamayas for chorizo taco and fried chicken quesadilla:
And then the dressed up grilled fish and shrimp tacos at Gardenias:
I then headed down to the beach to meet up with some acquaintances from the boat. They were headed straight to The Office, which is where I enjoyed my first-ever fish tacos 28 years ago. Back then it was a shack on the beach, with 3 or 4 small tables and plastic chairs stuck straight into the sand. Well, guess what, it’s nothing like that now. In fact, the whole beach is a giant shitshow lined with disco-blaring restaurants, umbrellas and lounge chairs. I walked all the way to the wrong end of the beach and then back again and as luck would have it, my pals were just walking out from the Office (which I probably would have never found since it’s now a sea of blue umbrellas covering tables with no sign whatsoever as to its name). We found a nice place to lay down
and enjoyed the cool beach. Of course, between the blaring music and the plethora of water taxis, glass-bottom boats, two cruise ships and jetskis, it was nice a quiet day at the beach. We marveled at the fact that, like in many Asian countries, things appeared so crazy but no accidents at all. And as you can see in this post’s featured image, there’s another activity going on that I’ve never seen before: some kind of high-pressurized device that is worn on the feet to enjoy the view from above the water’s surface. Ah, human beings. Ever creative on the things that move us in the wrong direction!
Tender back to the boat and that’s all she wrote. Two more days at sea (and bridge!), then disembarkation in LA, where I’m going to meet Ian and Dani for brunch before heading to the airport.
Cruise report: I love being out and plowing through the ocean, playing and learning about bridge and the ship and crew were top-notch. However, traveling as a single person was occasionally not optimal and the music/entertainment/energy level of the trip were not aligned with my preferences. So can now say “been there, done that” and like building my first house, I know what I’d look for next time….Thanks for traveling with me once again! That’s all folks, until February…
