Oh baby, am I having fun now. As I wandered up and down streets in Little India, I used the tried and true method of hunting down a good place to eat. Saw the restaurant that was crammed with Indians and marched myself in there (keeping my trepidation to myself). One other non-Indian, and only a few women. Things were moving fast and I checked out the counter behind me (see first photo), where most of the prepped food was sitting on shelves. Could I have one of everything, please? Ordered prawns masala and awaited my tray. Everyone got their food on a tray and they were eating with their (right) hand. Two men walked around with big bowls of rice refilling anyone who wanted more. I looked around and studied so as to go native style. Ordered a ginger tea, which was excellent. The food arrived and I dug in (literally!). The woman at the end of my table was smiling at me and kept giving me the thumbs up. When I asked the waiter to take my picture, she insisted I had to get the picture of me shoveling food in my mouth. The waiter at one point said I should use my spoon, but he didn’t know who he was talking to! I was in ecstasy…..After an afternoon walk through the Singapore history museum (a very nice one at that) and a brief stop at the world-famous Raffles hotel Long Bar (I did hop up to the bar to order a Singapore Sling, but as I looked around and everyone was a tourist, I left. And who wants to pay $18 for a drink, anyway?). After a long rest in my room, I walked along the Esplanade, past the statue of the MerLion, and settled in at the Palm Beach restaurant (how ironic) and had myself a big ole chili crab, which is a local specialty. And yes, I DID eat the whole thing. What a mess, but yummy.

Wow . . . no, make that a double wow! Really proud (and just a bit envious) to see you taking on Planet Earth with so much enthusiasm. Needless to say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your commentary and pictures. Since only now just back from Chicago adventure with T, will simply say “go girl” and keep the reports coming! You’re blazing the trail . . .
oh my damn that crab looks tasty! so does the rice! so does the masala… and that monstrous lobster in the tank over your shoulder, too! im so happy that you are enjoying yourself, its been fun reading along on the website (which is lookin’ great). i think it’s so cool how both the indian and asian influences each have such a unique and strong hold on the city. such a wild blend of those cultures has to make for some pretty alien terrain – glad to see you’re navigating it with style. keep up the posts when you can, take one awesome (and totally out-there) bite for me, and we can’t wait to hear more about it!
ditto on what michael said regarding the food.
as far as the pictures go, it’s great that you can post the thumbnails and we can click for the full view.
the pic of the “claw” with food in hand is classic! i SERIOUSLY need to stop reading your posts before breakfast.
xoxo
I vote for the Prawns masala..crab may be daunting for me, then again a good bib and cracker and I would be all over it. Love hearing and seeing all the adventures..especially the food. I am envious..carry on

Berta, I don’t know what you mean by “put me on your list”. I set up the blog so people could visit and follow my adventures whenever they like – I don’t send anything out to anyone. It is all great and I leave for Sulawesi tomorrow. Unfortunately, as I just posted in the blog, I am fighting a nasty sinus cold, so we’ll see what happens. No matter what, it’ll be glorious!!! and don’t forget, I’ll be trying to drag you along after the fall. xo
