Foz do Iguazu

Breakfast buffet by the pool and then we’re off with our guide for a walk on the (not wild) Brazil side of the falls. It is said that one goes to the Brazil side to see the falls and the Argentine side to experience the falls. Luckily, we get to do both!

It’s about an hour and a half walk, on a one-way path, from the beginning of the falls to the panoramic tower, which marks the end. We stop at each, and Beatrice, our guide, tells us the names of all the the individual falls, and their derivation. Named for the first man to discover the falls (Nunez), the twin daughters of the King (the Two Sisters) as well as more poetic monikers such as the Three Musketeers, and Adam and Eve. There are definitely hoards of people, although Beatrice tells us that 60% of the tourists are Argentinian, another 30% foreigners and only 10% Brazilians. This is changing, though, as the falls were named one of the seven natural wonders of the world in a 2011 poll. You really can’t imagine how big/wide/beautiful it is in its totality without seeing it (like Machu Picchu was for me)

Photos aren’t great, because it’s overcast and so misty, but I’ll share some:

One closer up at the final observation tower:

and of course, the obligatory:

After we reach the end, we opt to walk back to the hotel, instead of using the shuttle. Look at our lovely pink hotel:

Our timing is excellent, because we eat a lovely lunch by the pool:

but then it starts pouring as we enter the Spa:

for a body scrub, massage and facial in the couples room:

My attendant’s name is Irma, but I feel more like it’s Olga from an old movie, because she’s very large and is kinda rough on me. No matter, it’s incredibly relaxing, and we manage to get back to our room in a stupor and fall on our beds until dinnertime. We head to the a la carte restaurant and have rollocking good time telling stories and laughing. Food, meh, but most likely because of what we’ve ordered. Back to our rooms for a good night’s sleep.
