Gerard Mulot et le grand cafe

Today starts with a visit to one of the pastry shops that is open today (all museums and many restaurants are closed on Monday) that is supposed to have excellent this and that. A feast for the eyes, for sure:

Plus, being a well-reviewed chocolatier, I purchase some dark chocolate leaves as well. Then we are off to what is ranked as the top coffee shop, La Cafeotheque. While waiting for the first of our coffee tastings, we enjoy some of the pastries purchased above. VALERIE!!! This one’s for you (a gauche, bien sur):

We had two of the coffees-of-the day, and are educated by our lovely server:

The second go-round we enjoyed filtered coffees that are not one of the features of the day (see above). For the first, I order the prime (and award-winnder) and Lance has the guatemala. It is thick, and sweet, with a bittersweet aftertaste. I think of Taylor and (her) Matt, and sharing some of the kilo we purchase to bring home.

after this relaxed time (other than the serious buzz), Lance heads to Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur (with a pass by the Moulin Rouge), while I meander home by way of L’Occitane and another errand. Try to relax and stretch, but after 3 hours of working on the blog, it may be all undone!

The evening was filled with a Chopin and Liszt concert at L’Eglise de Julien le Pauvre, the oldest church in Paris, where I attended part of a concert with Nikki and Valerie 5 years ago.

and a nightcap at my favorite (from my 55th birthday trip) gelato store, Amorina. However, although Lance had gelato, I opted for the dark hot chocolate, which was served with a (dipping) cookie and a spoon. Yessiree bob! I took my time to shave off the top as it cooled and congealed, just like it was chocolate pudding skin, only much better. See for yourself:

Lance was really wishing he could bring some home to his mother, Carol. Ah well, I brought the leftover home, so as not to waste food – I’m very conscientious that way!
