After driving about 30 minutes up from Carbondale, Colorado, you will stumble upon the tiny town of Marble. And yes, so named because of a wealth of marble deposits that have been excavated to create the Lincoln Memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and many of the headstones in Arlington Cemetery. Who knew? Stayed in a cute, small cabin complete with kitchenette and front porch rocker, I attended the wedding weekend for my pal Brian Epstein and his lovely bride, Gabriela Porto Rodrigues. Friday night barbecue, Saturday afternoon ceremony and Sunday morning brunch, punctuated by a thoroughly sopping hike up the mountain until the trail came to a river crossing – but with such high water, we declined to give that a try. A wet, wonderful weekend surrounded by so many friends and good people. Sunday I headed straight to the airport to say hello to Taylor, just home from a stellar year at Oregon, scoop up my boy, and head to New York to get him settled in his new apartment. More on that above…
