Ni Ha No More

Last day in China. Oh, and by the way, when we left Guiyang, we left from the International Terminal (even though Hong Kong is now part of China, it still has its own currency and is considered international for travel purposes) and had to fill our entry forms! So silly. I wake late, chat with the concierge and hit the subway to get back to the ladies market to pick up a couple things I saw yesterday.

I arrive back where we were yesterday, but the ladies market is only just getting set up. So I decide to talk over to the Langham Hotel to eat dim sum in the Ming Court restaurant, recommended by the concierge. This is kind of the antithesis of yesterday’s experience: gourmet, delicate pastries with rich, light broth, drunken chicken soup dumpling, rice rolls with homemade XO sauce, and tofu wrapped preserved meats. I savor the variety of flavors and then head back over the the ladies market. Most booths are now set up and I walk back and forth quite a few times until most everyone is done and I can find what I’m looking for. It’s hot and tourists are out in force – by the time I’m done, I can tell you everything hanging up in every booth! I even find a silver-lined umbrella like the ones I’ve admired as providing the best sun protection I’ve ever seen!

Back on the subway, onto the shuttle and to the cool hood, where I pack up and catch up on the blog until dinner time; another wonderful recommendation from the same concierge. Again, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hong Kong (although not perfect location in Kowloon cuz not right by the subway line, they provide a free shuttle to drop you off at subway and ferry station.

Dinner finished and suitcase packed, I look forward to my 39-hour birthday and trip home tomorrow. And speaking of which, when I returned to my room, I received a lovely piece of cake and a card signed by everyone on staff at the moment in recognition of my birthday tomorrow!

How lovely….

It is also time for ime to see what is left of the flood devastation in the city and in Drew’s and my building (where BSW currently resides). Going to take my first ride on a dreamliner and looking forward to it. A 2 hour layover in Tokyo airport (ooh, Michael, I can pick up some more dried baby octopus for you!) and then a non-stop 10 1/2 hour ride to Denver.

Until we hang again, October 14th for the Truffle festival season in Northern Italy with Leonardo and Michael.
