Nicaragua

A country a day? If it’s Tuesday, this must be Belgium…not. Today was my first (and only) tour booked through the ship line. The opportunity to practice patience, I’m sure. We boarded the tender:

And then hopped into a bus bound for town. First stop was a local artisan’s market, so I chose to walk around the lovely park out front:

And enjoy the locals going about their day. Mom and children walking down the street to the corner, where they set up a table and offered to sell some yummy looking something or other:

Here’s the “other” up close:

If I’d had the nerve, I might have taken advantage of this sign:

But I met back up with the group, and a further drive took us to Masaya volcano, which was steaming like crazy:

But our guide wasn’t so good and no information was forthcoming. In fact, we were only allowed to stay there for 10 minutes! Have to keep on schedule, you know. Well, it in no way could compare to my recent sightings at Mt. Etna, but it was new information to me of how many active (and not) volcanoes are in Nicaragua.

From there, we went to the town of Granada. Lunch in a lovely hotel with yummy local food, then a walking tour. Churches? Claro que si! One cool factoid, though, was that all 3 are connected by a series of underground tunnels. Again, not much info from the guide, but the lovely square with the tallest steeple:

Then the 2-hour drive back to the ship, board the tender as the city lights came on:

and underway by 6 pm.
