Torino

A ferry and two trains in the morning, and the group arrived safe and sound i Torino (how the Italians refer to Turin). Located in an ideal spot near the Piazza del Castello, we enjoyed several days of museums, food and a bit of shopping. Please refer to the landing page for the blog, head over to the right sidebar and scroll down to the “categories” box to find Italy. There you will find all the same site and actual photos of the incredible Egyptian Museum (best English-language Egyptian museum in the world and second best after Alexandra anywhere), the National Museum of Cinema and the National Automobile Museum. And the buildings that contain each are about as breath-taking as any I’ve ever seen.

Lance and I went to the opera to see La Boheme:

and the beautiful lights all over the ceiling!

Taylor and I hit the Caffe al Bicerin the next morning,

and in walk mom, Stacey and Jeff on their tour. Ha! Wandering through the streets, we check out Guido Gobino and sit for a snack at Eataly. Who walks out? You guessed it: the touring turtles! I walked through the store…no one knows how many types of pasta there are in all the little towns. Settimio hadn’t heard of some I’d enjoyed in the north and Leonardo (from Milan) had no idea of busiate from the south. Here’s an idea:

I had the most incredible hot chocolate there – and we’re talking thick like hot pudding, and dark like 70% goodness….with pana on the side, per favore:

oh yes, it was that good.

One afternoon i wandered around our neighborhood and came upon and incredible cheese store (which I later found out was part of mom, Stacey and Jeff’s tour) and right across the little alley-like street walked into a little food shop that specialized in home-made pastries and title crackers. After looking through their offerings:

I could see through to the back where they were making it all by hand:

and then found out that I could order anything and they’d cook it up right then and serve it to me on one of the two little tables crammed in there. I enjoyed a lovely meal of two kinds of ravioli (yes, some of the pumpkin that she was making in the photo above):

Also had some splendid meals. Pictures? Let’s see…
