Sitting in Bangkok airport hotel. Valerie is on the first leg of her flight right now – I think to Shanghai. I’m heading over to airport in a few hours, then begin the long and winding path to Misool Eco Resort. Late afternoon flight from Bangkok to Jakarta. 5 hours in Jakarta airport, then 12:30 am flight to Makassar, a couple hour layover, then an hour and some to Sorong. Will land there about 7:45 am (time change in there somewhere). Meet up with boat transfer and then a 4 or 5 hour ride to the little island (the plane! the plane!). It is likely that I will be able to give a big hug to the father of my children, as he spent last week at the resort with Oceanfirst, our favorite dive shop in Boulder.
Valerie pointed out to me something I hadn’t thought about, and that’s that most of the people in transit with me will likely be my “resort-mates” for the 12 days. As you can see from the logistics, there are set dates for arrival and departure from Misool. No one wants to pay to charter everything it would take to get there on some other day, that’s for sure! There is wi-fi available on the island, which I will surely sign up for (although going to try and purchase a pre-paid data card in Jakarta airport for iPad and see if that works), so you will be hearing from me at some point.
For anyone interested, feeling like I’m doing pretty well fighting the respiratory attack. Scratchy throat, and some coughing if I allow it to get too dry, and still mightily tired. Hoping to take first day on island easy and see how it’s going.
