Wedding Weekend

Bert and I headed off to DC for Erin Simon’s wedding on Saturday. The best thing was, all three of my chickens would be there! Rehearsal dinner Friday night, wedding Saturday afternoon. Here’s a pic of my beautiful children:

and the handsome couple:

The wedding was wonderful (aren’t most all weddings?) and we danced the afternoon away.

Afterwards, we dropped by the groom’s parents’ house for an hour or so, then headed to Karen’s house to hang with the family. After stuffing ourselves with some Ledo’s pizza and crab soup, people were falling like flies: falling asleep on couches and the floor. Cute. Sunday morning was family brunch, then Bert and I headed to the airport for Atlanta. We headed to Buckhead and I met his mom – sweet as pie and sharp as a tack. Out to dinner, then back to make up a list of chores we could take care of for her (and by we, I mean Bert!). Monday, while they went to the hardware store to acquire needed parts, I slaved away at the computer and on the phone with Continental airlines to lock down my birthday trip in September with the kids. It felt so good to get that done! Dinner that night was first night seder at Bert’s cousin’s house. Fun and fascinating to meet his family, understand his place in it, and put faces to the names I’ve heard about for so long. Lovely seder, helped out with dishes, and said I would be invited back any time. Off the next morning to return to DC, and attend much larger and more boisterous seder at Marsha’s, with Lisa leading all the children in song. That was culture shock – I’d forgotten what all goes into events in my family, the things that are so foreign to the way I live my life. But, fun all the same, especially because Matthew and Michael were there sharing it with me. I think they enjoyed being with the family; particularly Michael, who sat between Marilyn and Marsha, and as a result could see them as yakky sisters as opposed to the intimidating grandmother and auntie. A quiet morning the next day, then back to Denver to rest of for the next trip!
